china first 3G mobile phone

The developer of China's first 3G mobile phone set using Chinese standards signed a letter of intent on Sunday with a telecommunications company on commercialization of the product. Under the deal, the Chongqing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, the developer, and China Putian Corp, the country's largest telecom equipment supplier, will jointly set up a production base in Chongqing Municipality, southwest China, for manufacturing TD-SCDMA 3G mobile phones. They will produce the first batch of 3G mobile phones in the first quarter of 2004 for network experiments, and commercial production is expected to begin in 2005, according to the deal. The Chongqing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications announced earlier this month they had developed the world's first 3G mobile phone set of the TD-SCDMA standard independently with all the intellectual property rights. TD-SCDMA is the technological standard formulated by China for 3G mobile telecommunications and approved by the International Telecommunications Union of the United Nations as one of the three standards for 3G mobile phones. The other standards are WCDMA, proposed by European companies, and CDMA 2000, by the United States. CDMA refers to code division multiple access and WCDMA is wideband CDMA. Compared with GSM, TDMA digital mobile phones, or 2G mobile phones, and their predecessor analog mobile phones, the 3G phones are a more powerful telecommunication tool. The 3G mobile phone is widely considered the future of mobile telecommunications, capable of providing such services as Internet webpage browsing, teleconferencing, and electronic commerce. Chinese telecommunications giant Datang has set up an experimental network for TD-SCDMA mobile phones in Jiangbei District in Chongqing, southwest China.

W90 Sony Ericsson

This is a really nice competitor for the motorizr z8. A nice big 2.4 inch screen is very welcoming to this kind of form factor. Other than internal memory and LCD color differentiation, this phone has the Z8 beat by a mile. It's actually ...

WARER PROOF speaker in IPOD

Company has bombarded with all sorts of different waterproof cases for the iPod nano, but the Atlantic iceBar is one of the first waterproof iPod speaker sets that I have seen in recent memory. Forget having to avoid the wet stuff, because you can jam away to all of your favorite tunes, regardless of whether you're next to the pool or in it.Securely holding your Apple music player within its waterproof polycarbonate clutches, the iceBar grants you full access to the clickwheel, power button, and mute functions, all while sending out your favorite Slipknot summer jam through its stereo speakers. On the downside, they say that the battery life on this device isn't all that great. It "burns through three AA batteries after 18 hours of continuous use", and if you do the stop-and-play game, you can watch that figure drop even further. The iceBar Waterproof speaker case for iPod nano players will retail for around $70. Too bad it won't be ready until the holidays

APPLE PHONE from 1983

Cupertino has been toying with the idea for quite some time, because here is an Apple touchscreen phone concept from 1983. It's not a cell phone, because those weren't nearly as hot back then as they are today, but the core thinking is still there: a communication device that lets you interact with it via a touchscreen display.Designed by Marc Esslinger about 20 years ago, this is clearly a landline-based phone, but it seems that you can navigate through some sort of internal phonebook through the giant -- for the time -- screen. It even has the now ancient multi-color Macintosh logo in the corner. If you're thinking that the design is quite good, it could be because designer Marc Esslinger is the son of Hartmut Esslinger, the man behind the original Apple IIc portable computer.

Certain Pocket PC users have oftentimes scoffed at the BlackBerry line from Research in Motion, because no BlackBerry has had integrated WiFi connectivity. That has now changed. Research Motion has officially revealed the BlackBerry 8820, the first BlackBerry to come with built in WiFi. Can you imagine if T-Mobile decided to pick this up and include it as part of their new service? In addition to the three flavors of WiFi (802.11a/b/g), the BlackBerry 8820 also boasts integrated GPS, quad-band GSM, and a microSD/microSDHC expansion slot. . It's also got that trackball thing in the middle. The one feature that is sorely missing, however, is a camera. It doesn't even have an ugly VGA picture-taker. Certain corporate customers may appreciate this omission, though, given that restricted areas typically don't allow cameras of any kind.

About N93i

Going to get a cell phone that magically transforms into a ballistic Decepticon, but Nokia is said to be working on a Nokia N93i Transformers Edition that will come pre-loaded with a bunch of Transformers-themed goodies like some background images, ringtones, and some sort of Transformers video game.If we're lucky, the Transformers Edition Nokia N93i will also boast some sort of special markings on the outside to differentiate it from garden variety N93i handsets, because all of the innards will be precisely identical to the original. This is still in the rumor stages, but given the intense product placement found in the recent summer blockbuster, I wouldn't be at all surprised. The rumored release date is sometime in Q3 2007.Oh, and if you're wondering what the transforming cell phone scene from the movie looks like Russian, here's the clip.

outerbox for iphone

This one is hot off the presses folk! After being "bombarded by requests for a case," OtterBox works on a case for the iPhone that will sport a "slick, slim fit, semi-rugged" designing that allows for complete user interaction. As you have seen in the past, OtterBox cases are built pretty tough, allowing for all sorts of protection from dust, shock, and water.Known internally as the OtterBox 1940, the OtterBox for iPhone will obviously have a huge opening in the front so that you can can still enjoy that multi-touch interface, so you've got to wonder how this case will protect that luscious display from the elements. But check out that window in the back so that everyone can see your love for Cupertino!Anyways, here are the deets:
* Accommodates both 4 GB and 8 GB Apple iPhones * 3 Layers of Protection – The phone in its entirety is protected even during use as all surfaces are covered at all times* Touch interface is completely protected while still being fully useable through a patented touch-screen membrane* Sleep/Wake, volume and home buttons are all protected and useable via pass through buttons* Sync/Charge, headphone and silence functions are all usable through plugs* Case includes a swivel belt clip that provides full impact protection for the screen

Nokia N76 design and feature

DesignAt first glance the N76 appears to be a sort of Frankenstein creation, constructed in a lab from the hallmark parts of rivals' commercially successful phones. On the outer surface we have a mirrored face with embedded external display reminiscent of LG's Shine. Flipping the phone open, there's the flat metal, neon blue accented keypad from Motorola's many RAZR incarnations.
At 106.5mm by 52mm by 13.7mm, the N76 is thinner than any of the RAZRs, but feels wide in the hand. The flip mechanism is not spring-loaded, and the heft of the top section makes the phone a little awkward to open -- you'll probably need both hands.
Beneath the external 160x128 pixel TFT display are three multimedia keys, the likes of which we've seen on flip phones such as LG's U310, Motorola's RAZR MAXX V6 and the Samsung A701. Besides controlling your music, these keys allow you to read incoming texts -- handy for stealth communication during boring meetings or tiresome social encounters.
The headphone socket is a standard 3.5mm size, which means you can plug your own headphones straight into the phone. One design issue is that the ports for USB connection and the headset are located on the hinge, so when you plug in cables, the phone can't be flipped all the way open (see the video for a demo). Advertising material features the N76 opened at to an only-just-obtuse angle as if it was a laptop, but is that practical in terms of usability? Computer says no.
Overall, the construction of the N76 is solid, with its chunky hinge and 115-gram weight contrasting nicely with the whippet-thin form factor. You could throw this model around without fear of smashing it to bits.

Sony Ericsson & fossil both join to lanuch bluetooth watches

Brace yourselves for Bluetooth- enabled wristwatches. Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and Fossil Inc. on Thursday (Sept. 28) separately launched these watches to seek a new twist on mobile communications. Sony Ericsson rolled out its MBW-100 watch, which is equipped with a Bluetooth-enabled chip. The MBW-100 will provide caller ID and other functions within the watch. Callers' names or numbers are displayed on an OLED display beneath the watch face. When calls can't be answered, users can press a key on the watch to send the caller to voice mail, the company said. This bluetooth watch is designed to serve as a control panel for MP3-based cellphones. The Sony Ericsson MBW-100 lets you control your calls and music from your watch. It also notifies you of the incoming text messages. The watch control also allows the wearer to play, pause and skip to the next track on a phone-based music player. The Sony Ericsson MBW-100 watch will be available during the fourth quarter for $399.
Fossil separately rolled out its Abacus MobileWear and Caller ID watches that also integrate Bluetooth technology. The watches are similar to those from Sony Ericsson. Fossil is selling its FX6001 watch for $249. It will begin shipping in November, Fossil said. "Watches are the perfect 'glanceable' display. They are simple to use, fashionable and well accepted," Bill Geiser, Fossil's vice president of watch technology, said in a statement. "The immediate opportunity is for watches to deliver convenient new services." OEMs have long tried to bring more functions to the simple wristwatch, including a cellphone capability. While others have always questioned the need for a James Bond-like, all-in-one gadget!Casio, Fossil, Samsung and others have developed cellphone wristwatches, but consumer reaction has been mixed and sales have lagged.

Nokia WI MAX mobile phones releasing at 2008

At a Wi-Max technology conference in Boston, the world's top handset maker Nokia said that it plans to sell Wi-Max technology-enabled phones by 2008. Nokia also unveiled the network technology for Wi-Max. As of now, a computer can easily connect to Wi-Max for fast wireless Internet connection, provided that it is stationary. Nokia is expecting a major breakthrough for a technology that will enable users to connect to Wi-max using their handsets. Nokia announced that they have started the groundwork on Wi-Max ((802.16e)) enabled mobile devices. By doing so, Nokia has joined other hardware makers in the same field. By the end of 2007, Nokia plans to have super high-speed base stations starting at 2.5 GHz bandwidth and by 2008 the bandwidth would go up to 3.5 Ghz.The nokia has formulated plans for this on-going effort. The Nokia Flexi Wi-Max Base Stations will be compact in size, will consume less power and need little physical effort as far as installing and running the Wi-Max networks are concerned. These bases stations will also give Nokia enough room for future upgrades. Nokia can change from 3G to 4G in future depending on the increase in traffic. Previously, these base stations were used just for transmitting HSDPA and W-CDMA third-generation cellular signals.Currently, top players like Intel, Nokia, Samsung and Motorola all support the open-standard Wi-Max as an alternative to broadband Internet connection, with the third generation mobile telephony networks. But the Internet can get squeezed if networks fill up with voice callers. Nokia couldn't have got their timing so right, since Sprint Nextel announced last August it intends to roll out a 4 Mbps Wi-Max network by the fourth quarter in 2007. Sprint Nextel intends to use this in tandem to its existing W-CDMA and EV-DO services. Intel has also introduced their system-on-chip (SoC) Wi-max connection 2250. This system-on-chip (Soc) was preciously know as "Rosedale 2". These chips are installed in a mobile radio that includes a broadband modem. The SoC enables handsets to connect to Wi-max Networks. It can also connect to Wi-Max networks like the ones enabled by Nokia's new flexi base station model. Intel claims that its 2250 SoC can handle a discrete Wi-Max channel of up to 10 MHz bandwidth. Plus it offers a special efficiency at 1.9 bps per hertz, so the total maximum throughput comes to 19 Mbps. Though Wi-Max forum admits the perceived maximum throughput today is more like 14 Mbps. These Intel chips are mostly likely to be on Nokia Wi-Max handsets. Nokia and Intel have a long-standing agreement since June 2005 to collaborate on Wi-Max. While Nokia takes keen interest in HSDPA, EV-DO, and Wi-Max for wireless broadband. Intel on the other hand is mainly concerned with just Wi-Max, as the champion of that technology. Intel is also the most prominent advocate in favor of its IEEE standardization.Intel's executive vice president Sean Maloney said that currently the number of carriers providing wireless broadband service worldwide now numbers 40 and the number of performing trials has risen to 225. Intel has unveiled its plan to partner Motorola and Clearwire to conduct a mobile Wi-Max transmission test throughout the city of Portland, Oregon, all through the year.

Nokia launches N 77 TV phone

Finally it's here. Nokia's candy bar N77 TV phone has been launched in India today. This DVB-H enabled mobile supports LIVE TV Broadcasts.
"Television viewing has come a long way with close to 500 million viewers in the country today. With the growing popularity of mobile devices and its capability to offer instant access to information and entertainment, the launch of N92 and N77 will bring in the perfect synergy between television content and the mobile platform," said Vineet Taneja, Director Multimedia, Nokia India."The ability to watch live television on a mobile device has never been so easy. The wide 2.4" flat screen with up to 16 million colors and high quality stereo sound makes it the ideal personal mobile device for enjoying live TV and music on the move," he further added. The N77 comes equipped with a dedicated TV key and also has the ability to remember the last channel that was viewed, just like your TV. It's also capable of setting reminders and alerts for particular programs. The N77 can also allow you to view replays (up to 30 seconds). Apart from that its interactive functions include SMS voting to choose the next music video.

It's equipped with 2GB of internal memory and an integrated stereo speakers. Other than the more important fact that you can watch TV on the phone, the N77 runs on a S60 3rd Edition Symbian OS so you have all the other standard features of any phone with the same OS version including an MP3 player, a 2 megapixel camera, email access, EDGE, Bluetooth (with A2DP) and a USB pop-port. It also has a document viewer and a stereo FM radio.
This feature packed phone is priced at an MRP of Rs. 22,529
